Rio Grande River Cooter’s posses an ovular shaped elongated carapace. They commonly exhibit color schemes on their carapace that range from olive to a greenish hue of brown. Each scute displays an alternating pattern of black and yellow rings. The Rio Grande River Cooter’s plastron exhibits a shade of yellow, which is seemed on each scute by the color black. As they mature this seemed plastron pattern will fade. Their skin is generally green with radiating yellow lines throughout the head, neck, legs and tail. They also posses a yellowish hue present on a Y shaped marking that exists on their chin. The Rio Grande River Cooter’s are native to the southwestern sections of the United States and Mexico. |
