  Their flat, leathery carapace gives the Soft Shell its name and even has flexible edges. These turtles are very unique! They also have snorkel-like nostrils that help them breathe when they bury themselves in the mud or sand at the bottoms of ponds, lakes or rivers.
• Their habitat usually is what determines their color, as they tend to blend in with the sand or mud in their surroundings, but you can expect a brownish color with very pretty markings on these turtles. Their longer necks and nostrils allow them to keep their bodies submerged in the water for very long periods of time. They are active turtles that will need enough sand or mud in their set-up to totally bury themselves! They are very cool turtles!

Mata Mata Pond Turtles 

• The Matamata is one of nature's unique species that stands in a genus by itself.  It is a fascinating animal that displays numerous exotic features.  One is their peculiar technique used  for hunting their prey.  They actually suck the fishes into their throats, and at the same time they expelled the water out. The Matamata is a turtle but also it has many properties or characteristics that have been compare to those of crocodiles.  If we take a close  look to this turtle we will find many features similar to the features of a crocodile. 

• Western Painted Turtles are great for a year-round outside habitat in most of the United States. They are also great beginner turtles and tend to be very tame around their handlers. Because of their tame nature, they are less skittish around people and will tend to stick around so you can observe them!
• Omnivorous, the Western Painted Turtles do tend to prefer a more-carnivorous diet, so they will need to maintain well-rounded eating habits. They love to swim and bask, so areas for both should be provided. The deeper the water, the better, since they are very active and excellent swimmers! Depending on your location, you may need a submerged water heater, too.

• Musk Turtles are fascinating turtles that get their name from their musk glands that give them a distinct odor. They are known for very uncommon personality traits and can be both feisty, and totally engaging! They are extremely fun turtles to interact with.
  They have two distinguishing beige or yellow stripes that run from the top and bottom of their slightly pointed snout and across the side of their face. They are excellent swimmers that will sail through the water in the right habitat. They are also nocturnal and tend not to bask as much as other turtles. Sternotherus oderatus are omnivorous creatures that can live up to sixty years when loved and given proper care!

They are hardy turtles that can tolerate a wide range of conditions. They have great personalities and can be comfortable around people while some beg for food vehemently. They are omnivorous and enjoy both commercial and natural foods.
• Red Ear Sliders make great companions if you can meet their care needs. It’s important that they have a large enclosure. Red-Ear Sliders are known for their basking habits, especially in captivity, so if your set-up is indoors, you’ll need a nice UV bulb to give them the light that they’ll enjoy relaxing in.
