| Red Foot Tortoise Baby Chelonoidis carbonaria The Red Foot Tortoise is native to central and northern South America, Central America, and has also been introduced to the Caribbean Islands. They are medium-sized tortoises when they’re full grown. The hatchlings’ shells are more of a yellowish-brown color, becoming more of a dark brown as they become adults. Of course, they get their name from the red markings on their legs which even appear, sometimes, on their head. They are primarily herbivores and need a diet that is rich in calcium and fiber. They need a habitat with plenty of room for them to roam and they must have shaded shelter areas for them to take refuge. Red-footed tortoises are an interesting and beautiful tortoise to keep and help grow!

| 4 Inch Sulcata Tortoise Geochelone sulcata Sulcatas have broad, flattened carapaces, that are evenly brownish or yellowish in color and they’ve got a lot of character! Sulcatas come from some of the the hottest, driest areas in Africa. Some regions may not get rain for years. To make the most of available moisture, their skin may become highly permeable. In the wild, some dig tunnel systems extending 10 feet or more underground just so they can get to moisture! Indoor housing must include both basking and cooler retreat areas, and a den box in which to burrow. An area for feeding and a shallow water dish must also be provided. Ultraviolet lighting must be provided as well as suitable temperature ranges during both the day and night. Hatchlings are energetic right from the start, and quite active, starting their excitable behavior when just a few days old!

| African Spurred Tortoises Geochelone sulcata The African Spurred Tortoise is native to the southern edge of the Sahara and is considered to be the third largest tortoise in the world, and the largest mainland tortoise! These tortoises are beautiful animals and have very unique shell markings and designs, but as you can probably guess, they have “spurred” legs that look like they are covered in plates, which is how they get their name. Full-grown adults get to be around 24 to 30 inches in shell length. A high fiber, low protein and calcium rich diet will ensure good digestive tract function and healthy growth. They are herbivores that enjoy grazing. They do best outdoors in warm climates, since they do not hibernate. The African Spurred Tortoise likes to burrow and enjoys having a warm, sheltered area to spend its time in. These are not the most active tortoises but they have tons of personality and are a lot of fun to watch!
